The BOWL-A-RAMA was initially conceived and organized in 2003 by local animal-loving businesswoman Eileen Proctor, Top Dog of It's a Ruff Life!, as part of her continued mission to "lend a paw" to animals that are living a "rough" life.  Now in it's seventh year, she continues to spearhead this very popular, successful and important annual fundraiser.

This event is one that doesn't cost the group any money, we have fun, and all the money we collect STAYS with our rescue.  All it takes is a little footwork on the part of our membership, friends and sponsors!  You don't have to bowl, all you have to do is help by gathering donations!  See below in yellow for more tips and tricks to gather donations.

AZRR welcomed $1,615 this year to our
bank account for the dogs in rescue!

We thank each of you for your kind donations!!!

Arizona Retriever Rescue is a small but mighty group, relatively new to the rescue business.  This group has some of the most awesome people with heart to match their doggies and we hope you will jump on our bandwagon and help collect donations for our group.  We have in year's past received pledges of almost $4,000 so we'd like to keep that as our goal, but let's top that $4,000 mark and surpass it!

Some information to help you collect donations are:

  • ASK anyone you come in contact with (friends, relatives, neighbors, walking partners, people at the dog parks, co-workers, your hair dresser, your doctors, teachers, the cashiers at the grocery stores, all your doggie friends' parents, the list could go on a mile!)
  • Do you have a FACEBOOK, TWITTER or MYSPACE page?  Enter it there and refer to this page for further info!

  • Tell them about your rescued pet and what rescue meant to you and your pet
  • Does your company have matching funds?  If so, another addition to our donations!
  • Tell them about the dogs in rescue:  each is given all their shots, spayed and neutered and a loving home is found.  Some dogs come in with medical needs such as surgeries and we do everything possible to be sure they receive the surgery or medications.
  • Take a jar to your local stores and ask if you can set it up until July 31.
  • Get a competition going with your friends, give them a donation sheet and see who can get the most donations
  • Be crafty, anything to get donations!
  • The donation sheet has 25 lines, but not to worry when you fill those up we have more pledge sheets available
  • Arizona Retriever Rescue will accept cash, checks, PayPal or credit cards (see below).
  • All checks should be made out to AZRR.  If your sponsor provides cash and wishes to have a donation letter for their tax files, just get their address and we'll send them one.
  • If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us at:  BAR@azrr.org  or by calling us at 480-946-8704

Remember, you don't have to live in the Phoenix area to gather donations, this can be done from anywhere in the world!
All it takes is a little time and effort, lots of talking and a pledge form!

Pledge Amounts need to be tallied and emailed to me at:  BAR@azrr.org  by July 31, 2009.  We will add them all up and let you all know how we did after the event.  Donations can be collected as you are getting your pledges or as time gets closer for the event August 1.  All donations should be sent to our address below, please be sure to mark them all BAR 2009.

The dogs below are some that had special needs this year.

Special needs = Dollars Spent Lovingly for truly special dogs by AZRR
JOY

Joy came into rescue with a deformed foot.  We will be having her assessed by the vet on Monday July 27 to see what we can to help her live a normal life.

We aren't sure yet what her costs will be but we know there will be medical costs.

See Joy's personal page for updates as we get them.

Buddy

You may remember Buddy from last year's event.  He has now completed all his surgeries and is a happy, sweet soul, healthy due to donations such as yours.

Buddy is a beautiful, 16 month old golden retriever who was turned in by his former owner. He had TPLO surgery on both knees to repair torn acruciate ligaments. He is now in his forever home and is happy, healthy and much loved!

Buddy's surgery costs were over $6000.

Please help us continue the mission of rescue for dogs like Buddy!

Sophie

Sophie

Sophie came in with entropian (rolling-in of the eyelid) of her left eye and a grade IV-V heart murmur. Surgery was performed on her left eyelid to prevent the hair on the surface of the eyelid from rubbing on her eyeball which could have ultimately resulted in corneal ulcers or erosions which could interfere with vision.  Sophie also needed an ultrasound to determine the cause of her heart murmur.  The ultrasound revealed the cause to be aortic stenosis.

Sophie is a very sweet golden retriever. She came into rescue as a stray.  She is very loving and affectionate. She is very calm and LOVES her tennis balls. She can even get two in her mouth at the same time. She walks great on a leash and is wonderful around dogs and kids.  Sophie says thank you so much for contributions which freed her from eye pain and a the knowledge of her heart problems.

Sophie's surgery cost and ultrasound were over $1,100.

Please help us continue the mission of rescue for dogs like Sophie!

Big Duke

Big Duke

Duke is one of the sweetest boys alive!  He came to us with extremely severe ear issues that were not taken care of.  Due to the severe neglect our only choice to help Duke was providing surgery for him called bilateral total ear canal ablation.  Luckily enough, he was able to retain the amount of hearing he had prior to the surgery even though it is diminished.  He is a beautiful soul, with a beautiful face, and when he smiles he lights up the world!

Big Duke thanks all the contributors that helped him get the surgery he needed so that he may also continue his life, one filled with love and smiles for all.

Duke's surgery costs for bilateral, total ear canal ablation:  $1700.00

Please help us continue the mission of rescue for dogs like Big Duke!

Malloney

Malloney

Talk about gorgeous!   Malloney is a stunning boy!  What you see on the outside isn't always what you see on the inside.

Malloney has early arthritic changes in his left hip due to dysplasia.  He was also diagnosed with bone fragments in both elbow  joints.  He had surgery on both elbows for fragmented medial coronoid processes.  His hip issue is being managed by controlling his weight, keeping his muscle mass built up and giving him joint supplements.  The elbow surgery corrected the problem with the bone fragments.

Malloney is so very thankful for all the contributors that have helped him receive the surgeries he has needed so that what is on the inside is as beautiful as this face.

Malloney's surgery costs for bilateral elbow surgeries:  $1500.00

Please help us continue the mission of rescue for dogs like Malloney!
