VOLUNTEER TO HELP

"Volunteering for AZRR has affected me in a number of different ways.  I believe every person who volunteers for an animal rescue group feels a wide range of emotions each day.   There is anger and sadness because we cannot save all the animals we encounter.  There is rage knowing there are owners abusing their pets by leaving them with no shelter, food or water, tying them to a tree, physically abusing them or abandoning them in some dark, remote place.

It has opened my eyes to just how many homeless and neglected animals there are in the community and moved me to try to do something about it.  It has brought me joy each time I am able to take a dog from the shelter and on to a better life.  It has brought me great sadness when I have had to help a dog along their path to eternity.  It breaks my heart to know there are so many pets who will never sleep on a soft, warm bed, play with toys or have loving hands stroke their heads.

I feel grateful I am able to do something that I believe makes a real difference.  I can speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.  I can educate people about rescue,  proper pet care, how to train a pet with positive, not punitive, techniques and how they can contribute to the well being of those who cannot help themselves.

In the three years AZRR has been working to rescue dogs, we have taken in 100 dogs.  This may not seem like a very large number, but it is 100 who are no longer homeless and are living a better life.  I value what I do for AZRR and believe my work has helped the organization to be successful.  Our records are organized and up to date, we have excellent vet care available for the rescued dogs and our dogs are placed with caring, loving families.  For all this I am very proud."   L.S.J. AZRR Volunteer

Volunteer opportunities are many in an organization such as ours.  There is always something needed to help those that do the work now.  Be a part of helping our dogs to be placed with caring, loving families.  You will find the work touching your heart and can be proud of what you do.

BECOME A SHELTER WALKER:  We have people from many different groups who are part of a shelter walker team.  We not only look for the dogs we rescue but also let other breed rescue groups know when their breed are at the shelters.  This could be a once a week visit for you or more if you are willing.

HELP TRANSPORTING DOGS:  Pick up a dog from the shelter and deliver to foster, vet or board and care.  We sometimes will meet a volunteer in Casa Grande, or Nothing to deliver a dog to the valley from a volunteer in either Tucson or Kingman.   Sometimes we need to help get a dog to the vet for a foster home that can't take the day-time hours a vet may have open.

WALK A DOG AT OUR BOARDING FACILITY:  Caring for our dogs in boarding by visiting them,  walking them, brushing them, playing with them and generally loving on them.

HELP WITH HOME VISITSWe provide you with information about a family looking to adopt from us, a form to fill out and tell us about the home, the environment and the family.  We make the decision with your references.  We have home visits all over town so if you are interested in a particular side of town, just let us know!

Help educate people about rescue, proper pet care, how to train a pet with positive,
not punitive, techniques and how they can contribute to the well being of those
who cannot help themselves.

FOLLOW-UP ON ADOPTED DOGS:  We have rescued over 100 dogs now and we'd love to know how they are doing.  We provide you with phone numbers or email addresses of adopted dog's families and you make the call's or send emails!  Then report back to us!

GET TOGETHER WITH OTHERS:  We have groups of people that make cards, gift bags, prepare for events with materials and many other group events that help the dogs.  If you like to be a part of a group doing work that will make a difference, let us know!

EVENTS:  Not only can you bring your dog, or if you don't have one, you can help us by bringing a dog in foster that needs to be out to events for more exposure and for those wishing to adopt to meet!  Many of our foster dogs meet their forever family at events.
